Many WWE PPV events have been a true success and have gone down in history as masterpieces. The formula for success is mostly based on extraordinary matches, mind-blowing spots, and unforgettable moments. In addition, the booking decisions must be good enough to satisfy the demanding fans.

Every AEW PPV Ever, Ranked From Worst To Best

While there have been some lesser shows, AEW always delivers when it comes to their pay-per-views. Which event tops the list?

In this sense, Cagematch.net users rate PPV events on a scale of zero to 10. Some PPVs have been so excellent that they have average ratings above nine points, which is incredible considering the hundreds of people who vote. These have gone down in history as the greatest shows ever put together by the biggest wrestling company in the world.

UPDATE: 2025/02/28 22:30 EST BY ANDREW KELLY

WWE has put forth many special events and PPVs over the years, so in this latest look at the top 50, we still have a long ways to go before making down to shows that were objectively bad or even middle of the road. Due to the sheer number of PPVs each year, there are a whole load of good to great ones that WWE have presented fans. In this latest look, we’ll assess a Royal Rumble event from the 1990s with a big time main event, two Money In The Bank PPVs, a historic one-time-only PPV from 2018, a fiery WrestleMania, and the PPV that kicked off the 2016 brand split.

Royal Rumble 1992

Cagematch.Net Rating: 7.86

Aside from a decent tag team opener between The Hart Foundation and The Orient Express, the undercard on this PPV was pretty poor with subpar match after supbar match.

However, the all-star Royal Rumble main event is often considered among the greatest of all time, including major names like winner Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Randy Savage, and more, offering up one the highest profile Rumble fields ever. This match certainly carried the PPV, leaving it as a fond memory to fans.

Evolution 2018

Cagematch.Net Rating: 7.86

The first and only all-women’s PPV in WWE history was a big success, with fans hot for the division at the time. This show featured stars of the past, present and future, with even the matches with less quality holding importance.

The likes of Lita, Trish Stratus, Ronda Rousey, Nikki Bella, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair came together in the more notable matches on the card, with the Lynch/Flair Last Woman Standing match in particular standing out as a fantastic bout.

Money In The Bank 2023

Cagematch.Net Rating: 7.89

An enthusiastic UK crowd made the 2023 Money In The Bank event one with a thunderous atmopshere, though it must be said the matches delivered too, for the most part. Both ladder matches had fun moments and unpredictable winners, and the main event Bloodline Civil War tag team match was a lot of fun (much in part thanks to the audience participation).

The undercard matches were fine too, including decent clashes between Cody Rhodes vs. Dominik Mysterio and Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins, which each served their purpose.

WrestleMania 22

Cagematch.Net Rating: 7.91

WrestleMania 22 was a night of ups and downs, but for the most part the show was a positive one. Edge and Mick Foley had a wild hardcore match with an iconic flaming table spot, Mickie James and Trish Stratus had a rare (for the era) showcase women’s match, Shawn Michaels and Mr. McMahon went wild in a sports entertainment spectacle, and Rey Mysterio did the impossible by winning the World Heavyweight Championship.

There was some complete inane nonsense such as a Playboy Pillow Fight and Boogeyman shenanigans, but overall the event had more strong points than bad ones.

Money In The Bank 2021

Cagematch.Net Rating: 7.93

WWE returned to full live crowd after the pandemic with this PPV, giving the 2021 Money In The Bank a very special atmopshere. The men’s ladder match was absolutely thrilling, Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley once again showcased their brilliant chemistry, and the main event between Roman Reigns and Edge had a big fight feel – not to mention John Cena’s shocking return at the end of the night.

The women’s ladder match was quite weak and the choice in winner of Nikki ASH wasn’t great, but the red hot audience elevated the show a great deal.

Battleground 2016

Cagematch.Net Rating: 7.95

Prior to the 2016 brand split taking force WWE put forth the co-branded Battleground 2016 event. The main event saw a triple threat between members of The Shield, which was good albeit a little underwhelming. The more memorable matches included an iconic clash between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, which really stole the show.

Not everything was great, such as a mess of an Intercontinental Championship match between The Miz and Darren Young, but overall the event served as a way for WWE to start a new era, and in that it did do its job.

ECW One Night Stand 2006

Cagematch.Net Rating: 7.97

It might not have been as memorable as the first, but the second ECW One Night Stand in the Hammerstein Ballroom was still very special and holds a place in the hearts of fans. RVD’s main event win over John Cena to become the WWE Champion was of course an incredible moment, as was the six-person tag featuring Edge, Mick Foley & Lita taking on Tommy Dreamer, Beulah & Terry Funk.

It wasn’t as heavy of the ECW celebration and extreme as the previous year, but there was still enough to make it feel different to anything else on WWE TV.

Money In The Bank 2010

Cagematch.Net Rating: 8.00

WWE introduced the Money in the Bank PPV in 2010, and it ended up being one of the best “gimmick” PPVs. Kane and The Miz won two very entertaining yet different ladder matches, with Kane cashing in later on in the night too in a shocking moment. The show was ruined a little in hindsight by The Nexus such as in the main event Steel Cage match between John Cena and Sheamus, though the act was hot at the time so the crowd did not mind.

Backlash 2002

Cagematch.net Rating: 8.00

Following a disappointing WrestleMania main event the month prior, The Rock defeated Triple H in a great main event at Backlash, giving him his big babyface crowning moment, which was the best thing on this show by a country mile. The Tag Team Title, European Title, IC Title, and Light Heavyweight Title matches all delivered in their own way, though there was nothing which blew things out of the water.

It was a pretty solid show all the way through aside from a few low points such as Bull Buchanan & Big Boss Man vs. APA and T&A vs. The Dudley Boyz, which would have been poor even for weekly TV.

TLC 2020

Cagematch.Net Rating: 8.01

Considering the main event had Bray Wyatt being burned to a crisp, the Firefly Inferno Match was actually not too bad. Additionally, the show featured two very strong TLC matches, which managed to impress despite the lack of fans during the pandemic. Roman Reigns defeated Kevin Owens in a match more focused on story and psychology, whereas Drew McIntyre vs. AJ Styles (with a cash-in from The Miz which was retroactively canceled) was more fun and had plenty of good spots.

The undercard was pretty solid, with there being nothing bad on the show. The biggest downside was the fact that this show took place in the ThunderDome Era.

No Mercy 2002

Cagematch.net Rating: 8.03

No Mercy 2002 was a middling show for the most part, but it was aided by two world class matches that are each among the best in WWE history, propelling the PPV into bigger heights. The main event between The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell was a violent war, living up to the stipulation.

The WWE Tag Team Championship tournament final match was the match of the night though, stealing the show in a massive way and ensuring that this PPV went from bang average to very good.

WrestleMania 38 Saturday

Cagematch.net Rating: 8.05

Fans did not have high hopes going into this show, especially as the first two matches were very slow and basic. Things picked up with Logan Paul’s surprisingly great debut, a thrilling show-stealer between Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch, and the jaw-dropping return of Cody Rhodes, who defeated Seth Rollins in a strong matchup.

The main event of the evening was a spectacle, as Steve Austin returned to the ring for the first time in 19 years to take on Kevin Owens in a fun battle full of sports entertainment goodness.

SummerSlam 2001

Cagematch.net Rating: 8.06

The WCW invasion of WWE was in full swing for SummerSlam 2001, so it was a night which saw plenty of big stars in attendance, though the matches and booking didn’t necessarily deliver all through the show. The two world title matches were pretty strong, with The Rock winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from Booker T and Steve Austin escaping Kurt Angle via DQ to retain the WWE Title.

The rest of the card was solid aside from the awful steel cage match which saw The Brothers of Destruction take on “The Stalker” DDP and Chris Kanyon.

Backlash 2009

Cagematch.net Rating: 8.07

On the heels of a disappointing WrestleMania, WWE bounced back with a show that had matches more worthy of a WrestleMania card. The World Heavyweight Championship Last Man Standing match between John Cena and Edge was fantastic, stepping up big time from the triple threat match at Mania. Randy Orton rightfully won the WWE Championship which he should’ve won at WrestleMania too.

Other improvements saw an enjoyable singles match between Chris Jericho & Ricky Steamboat, and a far more intense clash between Jeff Hardt & Matt Hardy.

TLC 2012

Cagematch.net Rating: 8.10

The Shield made their mark at TLC 2012, defeating the trio of Ryback, Daniel Bryan & Kane in a chaotis and massively entertaining Tables, Ladders & Chairs match, acting as the perfect debut match to showcase their skills. The rest of the card had some highlights, such as Dolph Ziggler winning the biggest main event of his career against John Cena.

No Way Out 2008

Cagematch.net Rating: 8.10

The Road To WrestleMania 24 was continued in a strong way in 2008 in a show which featured two strong Elimination Chamber match that had a lot of star power and huge stakes, won by Triple H and The Undertaker respectively.

The other matches on the show weren’t all that impressive, with all three world title matches underdelivering. The show was carried by the Chamber stipulation, ensuring that it was still an enjoyable night. The segment between Floyd Mayweather and Big Show was also a highlight.

Cagematch.net Rating: 8.10

The crowd in Montreal were great all night, but especially so when Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns battled in the main event of the show for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The match had a big fight feel and delivered in a big way, albeit with an unpopular result.

The two Elimination Chamber matches were good, with the United States Championship Chamber in particular being a major highlight on the show, with every man showing their fantastic skills and getting a chance to shine. Perhaps the only dud of the show came when Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley ended their rivalry with a frustrating disqualification finish.

WWE returned back to where it all began for WrestleMania 20, hosting the show in the historic Madison Square Garden. A fairly weak and predictable Royal Rumble match was propped up by a strong undercard here. Triple H and Cactus Jack fought in a legendary Street Fight, in addition to other notable matches on the card like Tazz vs. Kurt Angle and The Hardy Boyz vs. Dudley Boyz in a Tables Match.

If this show was finished off with a better Rumble, then it would no doubt be higher on this list, but with a lack of star power and a botched finish, this event doesn’t live on as fondly as some others.
