Snoop Dogg’s fans are divided now that he’s performing at President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming pre-inaugural ball.
On Friday, it was announced that the West Coast rap legend would be taking the stage at the Crypto Ball, which Trump’s affiliate David Sacks is hosting. Also slated to be a performer is rapper Nelly. Shock, upset, and confusion are few words to describe how their respective fan bases appeared to be after it was revealed they’d be performing at an event for Trump. Some seemed more perplexed that Snoop was performing since he parodied the famous hotelier in his 2017 music video Lavender after Trump won the White House for the first time in 2016.

At the time, Trump was outraged by how he was painted in Snoop’s visual, saying on then-Twitter: “Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama?Jail time!”
Once upon a time, Trump and Snoop were fond of each other. In 2007, then-TV star praised the gangster artist’s music during The Apprentice, and in 2011, Snoop was a part of Trump’s Comedy Central roast, according to Baller Alert.

Their relationship went left when Snoop supported Hillary Clinton for president in 2016, and slammed Black artists who were performing at Trump’s inauguration, calling them “jigaboos” and “Uncle Toms.”
While then it seemed that the two famous men were at odds, the Gin N’Juice rhymer revealed last year that he had no issue with Trump despite mocking him.
I have nothing but love for Donald Trump,” Snoop told The Sunday Times in 2024. “Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris.”
Michael “Harry-O” Harris is the co-founder of Death Row Records, which Snoop now owns.
