WWE is still finding success under Triple H in 2025, continuing the creative hot streak that has given the company a new lease of life. Some minor problems have often been blown away by the overall quality of the main event scene, though there are lingering Rock-related concerns that could emerge ahead of WrestleMania.

10 Best WWE Tag Team Champions Of The 2020s, Ranked By Skill

The WWE Tag Team Championships have been defended in marquee matches during the 2020s. Here are the most skilled champions of the decade, so far.

One area of the company that has declined under the stewardship of The Game is the men’s tag team division, particularly on SmackDown, where nobody has managed to stand out among the field. However, the latest development within the tag realm on the blue brand has got fans feeling excited, as the Street Profits look to take back their throne after several years of being one of the most underserved acts in WWE.

Tag Teams Have Struggled Under Triple H

The Street Profits Have Emerged As The Hottest Act In The Division

  • The quality of booking for tag teams on the WWE main roster has declined during Triple H’s creative tenure.
  • The Street Profits have been one of the most mishandled acts in WWE during this time, while also being beset by injuries.
  • Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins have shown a new attitude in recent weeks that has reinvigorated them.

It is anomalous how overlooked the tag team division seems to be within WWE under Triple H, as he has proven to take care of almost every talent on the roster. One act that has suffered under his creative regime despite others’ success is the Street Profits, who have been in and out of plans for several years now.

While these WWE wrestlers failed with Vince McMahon as the head of creative, Triple H would have made them stars.

The Profits have not held tag team gold in WWE since early 2021, but their issues go deeper than a lack of title involvement. Their character development and storylines have either failed to get off the ground or been disrupted due to external factors, meaning that they have been stuck in a stagnant phase.

They most notably became involved with Bobby Lashley in forming The Pride, but his exit from the company last year put pay to their latest attempt at getting screen time. Now that they are back by themselves and focused, it is time for Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford to be profiled as the top act in the division once more.

WWE’s Tag Division Is Missing Star Acts

Triple H Has Prioritized Singles Stars Teaming Together Over Established Units

  • Triple H managed to book tag teams better when there was only one set of championships rather than two.
  • He also managed to book teams of individual stars better than established double acts, hindering the Street Profits.
  • Teams like Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, and Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes, thrived as makeshift duos under Tripe H.

The biggest factor that has contributed to WWE’s recent problems with the tag team division is the lack of star power. When Triple H first took over creative control, there was a wealth of top acts in the tag division, but crucially, only one set of champions to worry about.

Sami Zayn Vs. Kevin Owens: How WWE Can Finally Do This Feud Right At WrestleMania 41

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been in a rivalry that’s lasted for years, but hasn’t always lived up to the hype.

Tandems such as Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, Finn Balor and Damian Priest, and Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso shone above the rest of the usual tag teams, who did not have the individual star power of these performers. It was also far easier to manufacture one tag division, rather than there being two separated across different brands, which has thinned out the roster of teams.

By choosing to push tag teams comprised of singles stars working together, WWE did create this issue for themselves. Where teams like the Street Profits could have shone as a duo, Triple H opted to push individual stars within the tag division, which has happened a lot throughout wrestling history.

It was perhaps inevitable that the tag team division would be diluted to some degree when the titles were split up, but WWE underestimated how few tandems were over before they did separate the belts once again. It will take an act that has the momentum of a Street Profits on Smackdown, or New Day on Raw, to help get these divisions out of the doldrums, raising the level once more.

The Street Profits Can’t Split Yet

Montez Ford And Angelo Dawkins Need One Last Great Run Together

  • There has often been speculation that the Street Profits could split given their recent misuse as a tag team.
  • Montez Ford has been a presumed superstar in waiting, whilst Angelo Dawkins has also shown his individual quality.
  • A split should not occur between the Street Profits before they can have one last meaningful run together as a team.

Throughout the past few years, when the Street Profits struggled to find any form of continuity, the easy thing for fans to speculate about was a potential split between the pair. Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford have been together for their entire main roster careers thus far, also having a memorable stint on NXT before that.

10 Best Men’s Tag Teams In The WWE Right Now, Ranked

WWE’s roster is incredibly talented right now, both in the singles and tag team divisions. Here are WWE’s best men’s tag teams today.

Whilst Montez Ford has always been considered to be the breakout star of the group, Angelo Dawkins has proven to be a capable talent on an individual basis as well. The two would no doubt find success on their own, but splitting them now after the weakest stint of their career would be a waste.

The Profits deserve the chance to make WWE fans fall in love with them once again so that they can have a more impactful split when that moment comes down the line. Ford and Dawkins easily have less than one more substantial title reign left in them before they move on, so WWE had better give them the run they have been waiting for. The Grand Slam Tag Team Champions have a strong chance to re-energize their careers alongside the flailing division on SmackDown, so Triple H mustn’t miss his chance with the Street Profits once again.
